SustainED Gathered over 130 Participants to Drive Innovation in Shrimp Aquaculture in Ecuador

  • Clean energy, artificial intelligence, and precision nutrition set the tone for the program’s agenda.

SustainED, a continuous learning platform created by the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), held its sixth edition on August 19 in Guayaquil. Designed to share knowledge and drive sustainability in the shrimp industry, the program centered on the theme “Innovation and Technology: Tools to Enhance Efficiency, Productivity, and Competitiveness.” The event brought together over 130 participants and featured 13 national and international experts across 12 technical sessions.

The presentations addressed the main trends transforming aquaculture: the use of clean energy and electrification technologies; the application of artificial intelligence, big data, and advanced connectivity; innovations in precision and low-impact nutrition; as well as new tools to measure and reduce the environmental footprint.

This edition also featured interactive stands, giving participants the opportunity to experience first-hand how the presented tools work and to explore their practical applications in greater depth.

“The history of aquaculture in Ecuador shows that innovation and technology have been key to overcoming challenges and achieving global leadership in shrimp production and exports. SustainED is a platform to keep us on that path, fostering continuous learning and the adoption of solutions that drive us to grow responsibly and efficiently,” said the Director of the SSP, Pamela Nath.

The Executive President of the CNA, José Antonio Camposano, remarked: “One of the great strengths of Ecuador’s shrimp industry is its ability to learn from leaders in different areas. When one producer sees another successfully implement an improvement, they strive to replicate it. To accelerate this dynamic, we have expanded programs like SustainED, which has established itself as a platform for continuous knowledge-sharing and the promotion of innovation across the entire value chain.”

The event stood out for providing a channel of learning and connection among producers, researchers, technicians, and supplier companies, who were able to explore solutions applicable to shrimp farms and hatcheries, aimed at improving the sector’s productivity and sustainability.
