SSP and CNA promote strategies for sustainable water and soil management
- SustainED, a continuous education program for the sustainability of the shrimp industry, gathers over 150 industry experts.
Guayaquil, Ecuador – April 3, 2025. Today, the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) hosted a new edition of SustainED, an educational program designed to promote the sustainable development of the Ecuadorian shrimp industry. Over 150 experts, academics, and leaders from the aquaculture sector gathered at the Salon Fernandina of the Hilton Colón in Guayaquil, with the goal of strengthening their knowledge on “Strategic Water and Soil Management” and acquiring practical tools to improve environmental quality while enhancing the outcomes of more sustainable shrimp production.
“Water is essential not only for shrimp production but also for the livelihood of people, ecosystems, and global food systems. Through SustainED, we aim to provide industry stakeholders with strategies for the sustainable use of resources, ensuring that our practices preserve the environment while providing quality protein to consumers,” said SSP Director Pamela Nath.
On the other hand, the Executive President of CNA, José Antonio Camposano, stated, “Aquaculture is a dynamic activity, and to ensure its sustainability, we must be in constant learning and adaptation. The knowledge shared in SustainED helps participants integrate these measures into their operations, resulting in a more efficient, responsible industry that is better prepared to face current and future challenges.”
Through eight technical sessions, SustainED provided a comprehensive approach to the challenges and solutions that can drive the continuous improvement of the shrimp industry. The presentations were led by both international and national experts, including representatives from companies such as BASF, BioMar, Nicovita, Skretting, and others.
SustainED continues to solidify its role as an educational and strategic platform for the shrimp industry, offering learning and collaboration opportunities to promote long-term sustainability.
