The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) congratulates Grupo Nueva Pescanova for expanding the use of Blockchain Technology to all their seafood products.
Guayaquil – Ecuador, June 9th, 2021.
The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) congratulates Grupo Nueva Pescanova after announcing that they will expand the use of Blockchain Technology to all their seafood products to offer consumers rigorous and detailed information on their traceability through IBM Food Trust.
SSP Founding Member Promarisco, from Grupo Nueva Pescanova, is already connected to the IBM Food Trust platform and offering blockchain traceability to deliver greater accountability and transparency for its premium Ecuadorian farmed shrimp production and journey to the consumer plate.
SSP have been working with IBM Food Trust since 2019, currently our members can enter data into this platform about how the shrimp is produced, from its birth on the hatchery, how it is raised on the farm, processed, and packed in the processing plant. SSP also developed a web-app designed especially for consumers, to enable them to access this key information by simply scanning a QR code from the packaging of SSP shrimp.
“SSP members have demonstrated that it is possible to produce the highest quality shrimp while committing to the highest levels of transparency” concluded Pamela Nath, SSP Director. “We are pleased to see that this commitment can be expanded to other product lines, because it is about elevating the performance of the whole seafood industry”.
